Ms. Mary Ellen Thorpe departed this life and entered into eternal rest Monday, March 3, 2025 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland.
She was born in Person County on November 20, 1941 to the late Caroline Walker Smith and Clarence Smith, Sr.
She attended Person County Schools and later made her home in Washington, D.C. Throughout the years she found her passion in working with the US Chamber of Commerce and also in the Montgomery County, Maryland Public Schools.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Roy Smith Sr., Willie F. Smith Sr., Ernest Smith Sr. and Clarence Smith Jr.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a sister Patricia Ann Elliott of Silver Spring, Maryland; Five sisters-in-law: Betty Smith of Baltimore, Maryland; Nannie Ruth Smith; Loretta Smith; Nannie Louise Smith; and Diane Thorpe, all of Roxboro, North Carolina; One brother-in-law, Albert Thorpe of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
